There has always been the tendency to look forlornly at the past and to wonder why we could not have landed there. Nostalgia is a disease that would rob us of the glories of right now. I came into the professional theatre in the late 1940s–a so-called golden age–and there were those who told me I was too late: I should have begun acting twenty years earlier. I was told the promise and the power were gone. We are born in the right age at the right time, and right now is our golden age, to make, to share, to love.
